At Booster, we believe schools are the heartbeat of a community. And in every great school there’s a group of volunteers who are committed to helping their schools thrive. That’s why we created the Volly Awards—to honor the amazing parent volunteers who serve behind the scenes to make their school a better place. From September 2019 to April 2019 we’re collecting nominations at VollyAwards.com for parent volunteers across the country. Each month, we’re selecting a winner to receive a $150 Amazon Gift Card and 50 custom shirts (courtesy of Booster Spirit Wear) for any event at their school as a thank you for their invaluable support of their school’s students, faculty, staff, and community. So, without further ado…

The Volly Award Winner for the month of October is Kyle Young!

We’re beyond excited to announce that our October Volly Award winner is Kyle Young. Kyle is the PTA President at Hutchens Elementary in Mobile, Alabama. But as you’ll see, that’s only one of the many hats he wears to help his school shine!

Kyle, or “Mr. Young” as students know him, is a mentor to many students at Hutchens. On top of owning his own business, you can find Kyle volunteering his time testing the students with the school’s Accelerator Reader and jumping at any opportunity to assist in the office or on school field trips.

Kyle has been involved with PTA since his second-grade son began at Hutchens in Kindergarten and he has a second son enrolled as a Kindergartener this year. Now as PTA President, he works continuously to bring innovative fundraising ideas to Hutchens and increase parent involvement in their students’ lives.

Long-time Hutchens teacher Julie Neidhardt said, “He works tirelessly for the benefit of all of our students.”

According to Julie, Kyle has organized a parent-student Bingo night, coordinated parent workdays, scheduled teacher breakfasts and pizza nights, and created a strong school communication channel through social media.

Those who know him will tell you Kyle makes volunteering a family affair. You’ll often find his two sons serving right alongside him. Kyle and his wife, Ashley, are also parent representatives for the Parent Lighthouse Leadership Team.

As if all that wasn’t enough, Kyle wakes up incredibly early each morning to serve as the school’s bus driver!

“No job is too small for him. He’s a strong community partner, and we would be so proud for him to receive this award for all he does for our school,” said Julie.

We LOVE celebrating amazing volunteers like Kyle, and it’s easy to see why we chose him as our October Volly Award winner. From all of us here at Booster, thank you, Kyle! Your service and spirit are paving a path of success for your school.
