Introducing Our December Volly Award Winner
At Booster, we believe schools thrive when parents volunteer their time and talents. And those same parent volunteers are often some of the most unsung heroes.
That’s why we created the Volly Awards—to honor the amazing, hard-working individuals working behind the scenes to support their school’s students, faculty, staff, and community.
From September 2019 to April 2020, we’re collecting nominations for stellar parent volunteers across the country at VollyAwards.com. Each month, we’re selecting one winner to receive a $150 Amazon gift card and 50 custom shirts (courtesy of Booster Spirit Wear) for any event at their school.
And the Volly Award for December goes to…
We’re beyond excited to announce our Volly Award winner for the month of December is Nicola McClelland from Sussex Elementary in Baltimore, MD!
Nicola is an incredible leader in Sussex’s PTA and entered the organization when the school needed her most.
She began as a parent volunteer, but when the PTA was struggling, Nicola took over as Treasurer and began paving a trail to success. Since then she’s reignited the PTA and volunteered countless hours—even through pregnancy!
Nicola has two amazing daughters at Sussex and now a new baby boy. On top of mommy-hood, over the years she’s brought the Boosterthon Fun Run program to her school. She also runs the annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest.
And if that’s not enough, she came up with the idea for Sussex to replace its old water fountains with a new eco-friendly water bottle filling system, saving the school money and plastic waste. Go Nicola!
“Nicola deserves a Volly because she is a tireless volunteer! She’s become a big part of the positive spirit of our PTA, and always brings her creative craft skills to every project.” -Melissa Ward, PTA President
While her official title is PTA Treasurer, a few of her unofficial titles could be Creative Genius, Committed Parent, and Devoted Volunteer.
During Teacher Appreciation Week, Nicola puts her creative magic to work. She teaches students how to make things like Thankfulness Banners and decorations for school Family Nights. Last year, she created Sussex’s Spirit Wear design and made sure to provide shirts that fit every student.
Because of Nicola’s incredible work, the PTA was able to pull off two amazing Fun Runs and reinvigorate the entire school community.
We absolutely love celebrating amazing parent volunteer like Nicola who have truly changed the face of their school for better. From all of us at Booster, thank you, Nicola, for your creativity and commitment to the Sussex community!
