Pass it Forward: The 2012-2013 Boosterthon Giveback Initiative!
Written on August 08, 2012 by McCall Dudeck
Every year the Boosterthon team focuses on a giveback initiative, inviting students to take part in our mission to “Change the World.” Last year, through Operation Playground, we experienced the passion Boosterthon students have for impacting children in another country—Guatemala, a place they’ve never even visited.
After such a successful international project, we’re excited to reveal our brand new giveback initiative that will help students realize the impact they can make in their own community.
During the 2012-2013 school year, when a student reaches $7 per lap in pledges, they'll earn the Pass it Forward Basketball Hoop Set. But that's just the beginning! A hoop set will also be “passed forward” to a child in a local hospital. Many of our students will have been born in these hospitals and their parents or neighbors may work in them too. So, as students receive Boosterthon pledges, they also give a gift to a friend right down the street and honor a hospital that serves their community so well.
The Pass it Forward basketball hoop sets were designed specifically to provide hospitalized children an avenue to play while in bed. Kids can attach the hoop to their bed or door. When reviewing the giveback initiative, Laura Smith, Volunteer Coordinator at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, gave us the idea to design portable basketball goals, and we thought it would be an incredible way to bring joy to children in every Boosterthon city.
At the end of each semester, our Boosterthon teams across the country will spend a day delivering Pass it Forward hoop sets to kids in local hospitals. Not only will we give out the hoop sets, but we’ll also bring the energy, joy, and enthusiasm our team is known for. We can’t wait to meet these children.
We are excited to see students give back to their communities and share joy with children right where they live. So, what do you say? Will you help us pass it forward?
Watch how it's all going to happen, here.
